MEET OUR NEWEST CRIA!!!

Our newest Cria was born this morning shortly before 10:00 AM this morning. I had gone out to feed at 7:30 and Chloe was laying down, but she got up when I came over to feed and seemed fine, she ate and was moving around with the rest of them like usual. Kevin was out doing clean up and went back over to check, and she was laboring, cria's head and legs were out so Kevin helped her deliver.

She weighed 16 lbs and has been up and about. She is nursing very well and is bright eyed. She is already trying to pronk.

  6. Please forgive my cria ignorance here, but what in the world is pronking? Never heard that one before. But what a cutie!

Yay Kevin! for being there to help her into the world. And Yay! for the camera being handy with batteries in it. Ours seems to eat those anymore...

  7. Kevin did much better this time, when Killer was born, he called me in a total panic.

I am bery prowd of my wittle girwl Chloe. She is my favorite adult, so sweet, and she is always sweet with the other 3 cria who try to steal her food even though they aren't hers.

I told Clare Bear that she has cuteness competition big time.

I can't wait to see what her color is outside in the natural light.

Yea for happy, healthy, pronking 9 hour old crias!!!!!

  8. Hi CNJ, thanks for coming over to see the baby.

Pronking is what they call what baby pacas do when they are feeling playful. Like rearing and bucking and scooting around that foalies do.

It is really funny and cute just like with foals.

I am so relieved that she is already feeling so good, since my last little one was never this energetic and didn't make it.

  9. Pronking is like when they go STRAIGHT up in the air, all their little legs underneath them. Like they've just jumped on an invisible balloon.
Antelopes, lots of the wilder grazers "pronk". I think.
It's also an early defensive move/ploy type deal thingy dingy. Go STRAIGHT up in the air, and then go
    ffwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeooooooooooooooooom
    That way!

(just so NCC gets it, you gotta point with NCC:)
