Hummingbird Hill is the name of my farm. I moved here in July of 2007 to get away from the burbs. Coming with me were my husband Kevin, one dog Spot, one cat Casper and three horses, Spunky, Whinnie and Wizard. We have since acquired three more dogs, Elvis, Graceland and Skippy, a Percheron named Buck, another cat, Colonel Parker and currently twenty three alpacas. Hummingbird Hill gets its name from the large population of Hummers that moves in each spring.
Oh, cool! Big old birds! They look so funny when they run and fly. Talk about ungainly speed:)
ReplyDeleteIt sure feels early for spring, here. Heck, it's April, and my pond's spillway is dry. weird.

Are those wild turkeys?
ReplyDeleteYes, they are wild turkeys. We used to have lots more that would come through the backyard, but with the dogs running around and barking, they don't come through as much.
ReplyDeleteMy dad will be excited to see that both are good sized gobblers, see the reddish heads and beards?
I have also seen a couple of hens over behind 2 of the pastures.
GL, when they fly off it looks cartoonish doesn't it?
Yes, turkeys are about as graceful as Canadian geese landing in my pond. B52 bombers- KerSplash!!!!
ReplyDeleteNo offense to the Canadians but when sharing a pond with a pair of Mallards and Wood ducks, it is quite the spectum of aquatic landings.
didn't Benjamin Franklin suggest them as the national bird?
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty wiley and are such good mothers. But they do remind me of dinosaurs when they walk.
Paddy, yes it was Ben that suggested them as the national bird, unfortunately, they aren't very stately and regal. I like your comparison to a dinosaur walking, fits perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI bet your dogs love the turkeys. They are probably fun to chase. Fascinating birds though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the photos of your gorgeous horses. Spunky is really doing well.
Thanks bhm, I keep telling Spunk he has to stay around for awhile, he is after all, the love of my life.
